KAREN:
Excuse me, young lady.

LILA:
(Looks up)
Hi…?

KAREN:
Don’t you think that outfit is a little… much?

LILA:
(Glances down at herself)
Nope. Feels just right for 80 degrees.

KAREN:
Well, when you dress like that, don’t be surprised if people get the wrong idea.

LILA:
What idea is that? That I’m not living in 1953?

KAREN:
It’s about self-respect. There are children around. Families.

LILA:
And they’ll be fine. I’m not doing anything wrong by wearing a skirt.

KAREN:
When I was your age, we knew how to dress like ladies.

LILA:
And when I’m your age, I’ll know not to shame young women for existing in their own bodies.

(Karen opens her mouth to respond, but someone walking by chimes in—a teenage girl nearby.)

TEEN GIRL:
You look amazing, by the way.

LILA:
(Smiles)
Thank you.
