The hum of the dryer fades as MEGAN (17) opens the washing machine to switch loads. As she pulls out a tangle of towels and clothes, something plastic clatters into the drum.
She reaches in—and freezes.
A pregnancy test. Positive. Her breath catches.
MEGAN (softly):
What the…?
She stares at it, blinking. Her mind races.
MEGAN (to herself):
Is this… Mom’s? No way. No. It can’t be.
She grabs her phone, then hesitates. She looks toward the hallway, suddenly unsure.
Her mom, SARAH (mid-30s), calls from the kitchen, cheerful but distant.
SARAH (O.S.):
Megan, dinner in ten!
Megan stands there, test in hand, her expression shifting from confusion to concern.
MEGAN:
…What are you not telling me?
