Minnesota Democrat Representative Ilhan Omar, a refugee from Somalia, expresses her belief that the United States, the nation her family escaped to, is deteriorating into one of the worst countries globally, yet she opts to remain here.
In a recent discussion with Democracy Now, Omar highlighted that U.S. military forces were deployed to suppress protests in Los Angeles during the same week the Trump administration organized a grand military parade to commemorate 250 years of the U.S. Army.
“Can you envision the image that will emerge from our nation? I grew up under a dictatorship, and I cannot recall ever witnessing anything of that nature,” the representative remarked, alluding to her experiences in Somalia.
“To have a democracy, a symbol of hope for the world, now transformed into one of the worst countries, where military personnel occupy our streets with no respect for citizens’ constitutional rights, while our president squanders millions to elevate himself like a failed dictator through a military parade — it is truly shocking,” she stated.“This should serve as a wake-up call for all Americans to declare, ‘This is not the country we were born into. It is not the nation we believe in. This is not the vision our Founding Fathers had, nor is it the country that aligns with our Constitution, our ideals, and our values,’” said the woman, who was not born in the United States.
“We should all unite and take to the streets, opposing what is occurring this week,” she added.
“I believe the individual who is in the process of dismantling our country should reflect on themselves, and that is Trump,” she asserted. “He should recognize that he harbors animosity towards the values we uphold in America and everything we have constructed. The truth is that protest and dissent are constitutionally protected; they are everyone’s First Amendment rights in this nation.”
The Minnesota Democrat and Squad member encountered immediate criticism on X for her remarks.
“She was not born here at all,” remarked one user on X.
“The exaggeration in this situation is shocking, further compounded by her remarkable lack of gratitude,” stated Guy Benson, a contributor for Fox News.
“If individuals are genuinely offended by a parade that has not occurred in decades, they should step outside and connect with nature,” suggested David Hookstead, a contributor for OutKick. “We possess the finest military in the world, and we should never feel the need to apologize for it. After all, our servicemen sacrificed their lives in an effort to safeguard innocent individuals in Somalia. It seems that sacrifice holds no significance for Congresswoman Omar.”
“I will never comprehend immigrants who arrive in America, take advantage of every opportunity this nation provides, and then proceed to criticize and denounce this country. Is it possible for us to have Ilhan Omar deported?” questioned another user on X.
“When elected officials like Rep Ilhan Omar assert that the US is the worst nation on the planet, they are inciting violence against the legitimate government,” another user commented.
“We face a significant issue. Not a single Republican in Congress is calling for her resignation. And we question why Congress has not yet formalized President Trump’s executive orders, halted corrupt judges, and advanced the America First agenda. Trump works tirelessly, while Republicans seem to be complacently engaging with these terrorists in the Democratic party,” another user expressed.
“There is absolutely nothing preventing Omar from departing if she is dissatisfied here…because we are a free nation. Unlike the Somalia she romanticizes!” another user added.
She has not yet disclosed any intentions to leave the country.
