The storm raged overhead, thunder cracking like the sky was tearing apart. Streetlights flickered. Water pooled at her feet.
EMILY stood in the middle of the road, soaked to the bone, fists clenched at her sides. Her voice broke through the downpour, raw and shaking with emotion.
EMILY
(voice cracking, then rising)
You don’t get to walk away this time!
(pause, breathless)
You said forever — remember that? Or was that just something nice to say before you disappeared?!
Her scream echoed against empty buildings, swallowed by the storm. She took a shaky step forward.
EMILY
(tears mixing with rain)
Say something! Just—just tell me I meant something!
Silence.
Only the sound of the rain…and her breath, heavy and hollow.
