The star of HBO’s Harry Potter reboot has turned on JK Rowling in a letter standing ‘in solidarity’ with members of the LGBT+ community ‘impacted’ by the Supreme Court gender ruling.
Paapa Essiedu, who has been cast as Severus Snape in the upcoming series, was one of several signatories of the letter addressed to film and TV industry bodies encouraging them to support the trans community.
The letter, signed by more than 400 industry professionals including other actors from the franchise, claimed the ruling earlier this month ‘undermines the lived reality and threatens the safety of trans, non-binary, and intersex people living in the UK’.
