What was meant to mark the beginning of a joyful new chapter turned into a harrowing tale of betrayal, manipulation, and murder. In the tranquil hills of Shillong, a sinister plan was unfolding behind the illusion of a romantic honeymoon. On May 20, Indian businessman Raja Raghuvanshi set off on a trip with his new bride, Sonam Raghuvanshi, to Meghalaya, a region known for its lush scenery and peaceful charm.

But days after their arrival, the couple vanished. Amid relentless rain and thick fog, authorities began a difficult search. Eventually, Raja’s body was discovered in a remote canyon—battered, decomposed, without identification, his wedding ring missing, and clear signs of violence.

Initial suspicion fell on Raj Kushwaha, allegedly Sonam’s lover, suggesting a crime of passion. But as the investigation progressed, a deeper and more calculated plot emerged. Far from an impulsive act, this was a premeditated murder, and shockingly, Sonam herself was at the center of it. According to investigators, she manipulated Raj with promises of love and a future together, but only after her husband was eliminated.

Raj then enlisted three others—Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput—who were promised financial rewards for their involvement. The group traveled covertly to Shillong, coordinating closely with Sonam, who kept them updated in real time. Between May 23 and 24, Raja was allegedly lured and pushed to his death. After the killing, the group returned to Indore. Raj reunited with Sonam, believing they would finally be together.

But Sonam betrayed him too. Unbeknownst to Raj, Sonam was also romantically involved with a third man, and she had no intention of keeping her promises. In a calculated move, she gave Raj instructions for a hiding place known only to her—part of her plan to dispose of him as well. The unraveling of this chilling plot came through cellphone data, which revealed constant communication between Sonam and Raj, leading to her arrest on June 8. During interrogation, she confessed her role. Now, authorities are investigating the mysterious third man and whether he was part of the scheme. The case has captivated India not only for its brutality but because it shattered the sacred image of marriage and trust. What began as a honeymoon became a nightmarish crime, exposing just how easily love can be faked and how far ambition and deceit can go. As the investigation unfolds, the country watches in disbelief at a story that reveals the darkest corners of the human heart.
