Officer (shouting):
“Hey! You in the gray hoodie — stop right there!”
Man (startled, raising his hands):
“Whoa—what? I didn’t do anything!”
Officer (approaching quickly, hand near his holster):
“Turn around! Hands where I can see them!”
Man (nervously complying):
“Okay, okay! What’s going on?”
Officer (frustrated, scanning his face):
“Where were you twenty minutes ago? We’ve got reports matching your description leaving the scene of a robbery.”
Man (shocked):
“Robbery? I just got off work! You’ve got the wrong guy.”
[Beat. Officer studies him. A moment of silence.]
Officer (reluctantly easing up):
“…What’s your name?”
Man:
“Marcus. Marcus Hill. I can show you my badge from the shop I work at.”
[Officer pauses, radios in. A few tense seconds pass. Then…]
Officer (sighs):
“…Alright. You’re not who we’re looking for.”
Man (still shaken):
“Yeah. But for a second there, I felt like I was.”
