[INT. CHARLIE’S BEACH HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – AFTERNOON]
Charlie, Alan, and Jake sit awkwardly around the coffee table, each holding a delicate teacup. Charlie looks unimpressed; Alan is trying to act sophisticated; Jake is confused.
ALAN:
Gentlemen, today we embrace the finer things in life. Tea—not beer—is the drink of true class.
CHARLIE:
(Class dripping with sarcasm) Oh, wonderful. Nothing says “bad idea” like giving me a cup of hot leaf water.
JAKE:
Why are we drinking tea? It’s like hot juice.
ALAN:
It’s supposed to calm you down, Jake. Especially you, Charlie.
CHARLIE:
Calm down? Alan, I’m about as calm as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
Jake takes a huge sip, then makes a face.
JAKE:
Tastes like sadness.
[INT. LIVING ROOM – LATER]
Charlie’s already fidgeting, Alan is sipping slowly, and Jake is playing with the saucer.
CHARLIE:
I don’t get it. How do people drink this stuff voluntarily?
ALAN:
It’s an acquired taste. Like dad jokes or Alan’s love life.
JAKE:
Yeah, those are both pretty bad.
CHARLIE:
See, Jake gets it.
TAG SCENE – [LIVING ROOM – EVENING]
Charlie sneaks a beer behind Alan’s back. Alan pretends not to notice.
ALAN:
So, tea?
CHARLIE:
(Grinning) Tea time is over.
